My Playslist

Image
My 2 continents that I’ll be expanding on and exploring more about that we haven’t in class will be Brazil and Madagascar. Both countries are very big and have a lot to offer when it comes to cultures and different traditions. I feel as if these few music videos would really help people see the different variety of culture the world has to offer. Samba is basically a rhythm driven type of music style. This style comes from Brazil and has deeper connections with Brazilian culture. It's a perfect example of how Brazilian and African customs combined to produce something fresh and very compelling. Why I chose this is because I felt like not a lot of people really knew about this type of music style. When I discovered it off YouTube videos that were describing it as a tradition in Brazil. It was very interesting because it felt like it was more than simply music. It a tradition that unites people all around Brazil. (Traditional, Brazil) Another Traditional song I’ve find from YouT...

Music & Family

Image
When trying to find somebody to do this assignment about, the one person I knew I could go to would be my mother. My mother is a very kind and caring person. Her passion, determination, and kindness are a driving force that fuels our family. She truly embodies nurtured love toward me and my 3 younger brothers. My mother has been married to my father for 20 years, going strong and I just feel as if it would be a good thing to see where her unique music taste original comes from. 1) What type of music do you listen to now?   Well, I still love to listen to R&B! You know R&B is my favorite. I really love the smooth harmonies and messages that are in those type of songs.  The old school R&B has more soulful lyrics and deep emotion behind them way better than now todays.  2) What type of music did you hear around the house as a high schooler? Back then in the late 90’s. My mother would play a lot of “Lauryn Hill’s. Then me and her where both big fans of...

Music And Traditions

Image
Well, going off from my experience with my family. We have this tradition we do every year for New Years even. While many people cheer as the clock strikes midnight and count down the last seconds of the year, our tradition is a bit different. We worship and reflect as we begin the new year by playing “My God Is Awesome” as soon as the clock strikes 12:00 with a toast looking forward to the New Year. It's a time of respect and unity, serving as a reminder that God is always in charge, regardless of what the coming year may bring. This tradition sets the tone for the rest of the year. It reminds us to start with gratitude, faith, and a mindset focused on God’s blessings.  When I was younger, we would have a big family reunion every 2 years as traditional. Were we go to North Carolina or Virginia or wherever we set the location to be at. No matter where we hosted it at, one song I knew would always get played was “Candy Rain" by Soul for Real”. It serves as a reminder of ho...

Music & Me (By Denard)

Image
My name is Denard and I’m a student just like y’all. I’m a sophomore at Converse University and I run track for the track team. I grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and I have been to many places in the states before. I have always been able to explore and experience different styles of music so hopefully this class could help me branch out some more. A few of my top genres (from Apple music) would be Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B/Soul. Just from being in Spartanburg for 2 years, there's has been a different in the type of music people play up here then from Columbia. 1)       1)   A recent artist who just now started to hit the scene that I’ve been really listening to heavily is called Nino paid. This past summer I was working at a food produce plant where the things I had to do were very time-consuming. So, to pass the time I would play new music I’ve never heard of and then 1 day I randomly find this particular artist. His music is very dynamic and creative. He al...
