Music And Traditions
Well, going off from my experience with my family. We
have this tradition we do every year for New Years even. While many people
cheer as the clock strikes midnight and count down the last seconds of the
year, our tradition is a bit different. We worship and reflect as we begin the
new year by playing “My God Is Awesome” as soon as the clock strikes 12:00 with
a toast looking forward to the New Year. It's a time of respect
and unity, serving as a reminder that God is always in charge, regardless of
what the coming year may bring. This tradition sets the tone for the rest of
the year. It reminds us to start with gratitude, faith, and a mindset focused
on God’s blessings.
When I was younger, we would have a big family reunion
every 2 years as traditional. Were we go to North Carolina or Virginia or
wherever we set the location to be at. No matter where we hosted it at, one
song I knew would always get played was “Candy Rain" by Soul for Real”. It
serves as a reminder of how much we value our time together and is a moment of
pure enjoyment. Even the younger generation, who were not born when tradition
began, understands that "Candy Rain" suggests festivity, love, and
family. The
song itself is upbeat that feels very nostalgic, offering a blend of soul and
R&B that reminds everyone of simpler times.
One thing I’ve seemed to notice is that every year when
it gets come to Christmas. There is an undeniable tradition that exists in
homes, stores, and radio stations to play Mariah Carey's "All I Want for
Christmas Is You”. For many people, Christmas isn't truly Christmas until the
first chords of this lively, joyous anthem are played. This classic song has
come to symbolize the holiday season. When "All I Want for Christmas Is
You" was released, it became very popular. However, over time, it has
become more than just a popular song. What makes this song so special as a
Christmas tradition is its ability to capture the essence of the holiday season.
Every year, its like people wait for the first time to hear it on the radio,
signaling the official start of the holiday season. In homes across the world,
it plays on repeat during holiday gatherings, in stores, and at parties.
Hi Denard! I really love that you guys choose to use worship music while brining in the new year; what better way to start the year than with worship. I really did enjoy listening to the song you uploaded for that as well! Candy Rain is truly a classic and could never get old in my opinion, on the other hand...the song by Mariah; has been engraved in my brain against my own will. It's a beautiful song but I can no longer personally listen to it because of how much I hear it during the holidays

ReplyDeleteHey Denard! I love how your tradition for New Year's is to give thanks to God and honor him by praising him with music like My God is Awesome! I don't have a New Year's tradition, but I think I will try this! Candy Rain is a really good song, and it's a song that's ended up in my family's karaoke night a couple of times. 🥲 I agree that All I Want For Christmas Is You is overplayed eveywhere during the holidays, but I can't complain because it's not a bad song, I guess!
Hey Denard!! I absolutely love that tradition of praising the Lord right as the New Year comes! I also love that song, I haven't heard it many times, so it was nice to listen to!! I also love that live worship version as well!! Such a great reminder to speak out loud!! He is awesome!! I also enjoyed listening to "Candy Rain." I don't think I've heard that song before, but it had a nice, soulful beat to it!! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Denard! Your traditions are somewhat similar to mine, and I like them. I had never heard the song "Candy Rain," but I enjoyed it (I’ll add it to my liked songs). I really like the beat because it has chill vibes that help you enjoy the moment and reflect on how grateful you are to be where you are. Lastly, the final song is one of the Christmas songs that I enjoy (I don't usually listen to Christmas music or watch Christmas movies), and you’re right; it sets the festive mood. One thing I disagree with is that this song is played worldwide. My country has different Christmas songs, either Spanish versions or entirely different ones. However, we don't have "All I Want for Christmas Is You." However, I heard this song for the first time when I came to the U.S.
ReplyDeleteI love your New Year tradition I love that you start the year with gratitude, faith, and a focused mindset. I also love that your family keeps its own tradition of playing a specific song at your family reunion and that even the younger generations can learn to fall in love with the song and what it means to your family.
ReplyDeleteHello Denard! I enjoyed seeing your new years tradition, I feel as if it isn't as common as it should be. When I was younger, this was also my families new year tradition . It's nice to see a tradition being communicated and shared by a classmate!
